Alyssa’s Law Compliance: Saving Lives & Shutting Down Threats

What Is Alyssa’s Law?

On February 14, 2018, 17 students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida lost their precious lives, and 17 more were wounded in one of the most tragic school shootings in history. Among the victims was 14-year-old Alyssa Alhadeff. This tragic event led to the creation of “Alyssa’s Law.” This legislation is a result of an investigation that cited “insufficient response times” from responders as a significant factor to the fatalities that day and that in-place emergency response systems, to speed first responders to the scene of an emergency like this, was found terribly lacking.

Alyssa’s Law takes a preventative measure against potentially violent threats, by mandating that public elementary and secondary school buildings be equipped with warning lights and silent panic alarms (or alternative emergency mechanisms approved by The Department of Education) that directly notify law enforcement in case of an emergency.

because time equals life.

According to the 'Make Our Schools Safe' website, a nonprofit championing the law:

Alyssa’s Law is critical legislation addressing the issue of law enforcement response time when a life-threatening emergency occurs, because time equals life. The law calls for the installation of silent panic alarms that are directly linked to law enforcement, so in case of any emergency, they will get on the scene as quickly as possible, take down a threat and triage any victims.

How can we at Response Technologies help you get compliant and save student and staff's lives?

Response Technologies has spent the last twenty years providing the fastest direct to law enforcement panic buttons around. When the unthinkable occurs, our Centurion Elite® sends notifications to law enforcement radios in less than 2 seconds. This notification method ensures the quickest possible response by law enforcement to the emergency and is precisely the solution required.

Our system automatically provides valuable information to First Responders in terms of speeding a course of action, where seconds count most.

Along with the radio transmission, the Centurion Elite can drive other notification outputs such as email, text, phone calls, and alerts over video boards and computers. These other outputs provide valuable information to people involved in the emergency in terms of plans of action. Our panic button solutions do not require your staff or students to make a phone call or interact with a mobile phone. We have thought about the worse case scenarios ntegrations exist as well with already installed access control and camera systems to enhance the potential emergency response.
